I had the tremendous fortune of meeting the Nelson brothers. My friends and I were lucky enough to get backstage passes to three of their shows. The guys were incredibly sweet and very down to earth. They were very friendly.
This goes out to Gunnar and Matthew Nelson. I want to thank you so much for the music you've brought into my life. So many times I've felt depressed and lonely, and so often thought of suicide, especially after the death of my father. He, too, was my hero, friend, and counselor. It was at the time I needed a friend to reach out to me and hold me that I saw you both on MTV. Your beauty shined but your love shined brighter. I needed to hear more. After your album was released I ran out and bought my copy. The music and the words, not only of the songs but also the message on the sleeve, touched me. Since then I've been hooked. A Nelson fan forever. You are such an inspiration. I hope to meet you both
some day and thank you personally, but until then, keep on making people smile and love again as you've made me.
On March 16 in Philadelphia I got the chance to meet Nelson at their hotel. The guys were really nice and even though they had a tight schedule they still took time for pictures and autographs. I had 4th row seats for their show at the Tower Theatre and it was the best concert that I've seen in a long time. Keep up the good work, guys, and I hope to catch another show of yours real soon.
I saw Nelson in concert on Feb. 14, 1991 at the American Theater in St. Louis, MO. Talk about an awesome concert! After two months of waiting for their tour to begin, they were very pumped up for this concert. They had so much energy in them it was unbelievable. They played with all their heart and soul. When Matthew and Gunnar say they want people to listen to their music and feel alive, they aren't kidding. When they opened up with "Fill
You Up," that's exactly what they did. I left that place feeling like I was on top of the world. Nelson proves that they are more than just pretty faces. They are very talented musicians. They can sing, they can play, and they can put on one awesome concert, proving that "two heads are better than one!" I have a great deal of respect for Matthew and Gunnar. They are not ashamed to think and feel positive about life. Music is their life. They know they can't change the world, but if one person listens to their album and feels alive and refreshed, then, by my standpoint, they have succeeded. I don't think people should judge them on who their father was or what they look like or what kind of music they sing. They have their own style--it's something different, unique and special. This is what the world needs. They should be treated like respectable musicians, not as teen idols or sex symbols. Yes, they are cute and everything, but that isn't why they're in the music business. The whole concert was a highlight
for me. The light show was spectacular. Matthew did a beautiful job on "Love Me Today," letting the crowd know that you better love today because tomorrow might be too late. It was very fitting, being Valentine's Day. I want to send a big thank you to them for making my Valentine's Day a very special day. I hope they will remember St. Louis, MO, the first city of their headlining tour, the city where their dreams came true.
